The death toll in the Peshawar police line mosque explosion during prayers has reached 83, while the rescue operation is still ongoing.

On Tuesday, the spokesman of the major hospital of the province, Muhammad Asim, told Urdu that the death toll has reached 83 and all the bodies have been handed over to the relatives.

  On Monday, a loud explosion caused the roof of the mosque to collapse, adding to the loss of life.

Bilal Faizi, the spokesperson of Rescue 1122, told Urdu News that the people trapped under the debris were pulled out at one o'clock in the night, but the operation to search for the bodies is going on.

Expressing the fear of increase in casualties, he said that 14 more bodies have been recovered during the search operation since late night and they have been transferred to Lady Reading Hospital.

According to Bilal Faizi, another rescue 1122 team has reached the blast site and is operating with heavy machinery.

A police officer told Urdu News that more than 400 people were present in the mosque at the time of prayer.

CCPO Peshawar Ejaz Khan told the media that it is difficult to assess the nature of the explosion because the debris has not yet been removed.

He said that whether the explosion was a suicide or not cannot be definitively said as CCTV and other evidences are being examined.
