Directed to convert government buildings of Islamabad to solar system within seven weeks

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed all government buildings in the federal capital Islamabad to be converted to solar energy within seven weeks.

On Wednesday, in a high-level meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the progress regarding the transition of government buildings across the country to solar energy was reviewed.

In a briefing to the Prime Minister on behalf of the officials, it was told that 496 government buildings in Islamabad, 340 in major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Faisalabad and Quetta and 1255 government buildings in other areas have been planned to be converted to solar energy. '

Addressing the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz said that 'Solar energy is an easy and best way to get cheap electricity.'

"In the current era, it is necessary to promote solar energy to reduce the import bill of fuel and improve the economy."

Shahbaz Sharif further said that 'before the arrival of summer, all the government buildings should be transferred to solar energy and the project should be completed within the stipulated period.'

"First of all, solar systems should be installed in the government buildings of Islamabad and after that a plan should be made to transfer the government buildings of the whole country to solar energy in a phased manner."

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the government is trying to provide environment-friendly and cheap electricity to reduce the burden of electricity bills on the people.

He said that the government will take more important steps to promote the use of solar energy in the country.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had announced the plan to switch government buildings of the country to solar energy last year.

The Prime Minister had said that the implementation of this project should be ensured by April 2022 to reduce the country's import bill and meet its energy needs.

Pakistan wants to increase its reliance on environmentally friendly energy to 60 percent by 2030 to reduce its import fuel bill, while according to official statistics, "renewable energy share in Pakistan is only four percent."
