'Woman pressed button and blew herself up'


One policeman was killed and six were injured in a suicide attack near the police gate in Islamabad, the federal capital of Pakistan.

On Friday, the suicide blast took place during a police search in Sector I Ten Four.

Islamabad Police has said in its statement after the explosion that "police personnel stopped a suspicious vehicle while checking and the suicide bomber blew himself up as soon as the vehicle stopped."

Speaking to Urdu News, DIG Operations Islamabad Sohail Zafar Chhata said that the police had set up a blockade at the scene of the incident.

According to him, there was a woman and a man in the suspicious taxi. The vehicle was stopped and both were ejected. The man was being searched when the woman went back to the car and pressed the button and blew herself up.

According to him, 'due to this, both the attackers were killed while one policeman, Adeel Hussain, died.'

According to the DIG, the blast was carried out by a VBID (Vehicle Base Explosive Device). He said that further investigation is going on regarding the attackers.

According to the police statement, "In the blast, officials Muhammad Hanif, Muhammad Yusuf and Muhammad Bilal were injured and have been shifted to Pims Hospital."

The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan has claimed responsibility for the blast.

The explosion was quite loud: eyewitnesses

An eyewitness at the scene told Urdu News that there was an explosion around 11:50 which was quite loud. We assumed that the transformer was burnt. When they came out, the taxi was on fire and human organs were lying outside.

  We thought the cylinder must have burst. When the police came, it was found that there was an explosion.

A rescue official engaged in rescue operations told Urdu News that 'We got the information about the incident from the TV, after which our ambulance reached here. We have shifted three bodies to Pims Hospital.

The Prime Minister called for the report of the incident

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the suicide blast in Sector I-10-4 of Islamabad and has sought its report.

According to the statement of the Prime Minister House, "The Prime Minister has paid homage to the martyred Head Constable Adeel Hussain of Islamabad Police."

He said that the police officers stopped the terrorists by offering their blood. The nation salutes its brave men.

The Prime Minister expressed his sympathy to those injured in the blast and directed to provide the best medical facilities to the injured.

'The vehicle entered Islamabad to target high value targets'

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah while talking to private news channel Geo News said that the registration of the vehicle was of Chakwal. There was a man and a woman in the car who blew themselves up during the checking.

He said that this vehicle had entered Islamabad from Rawalpindi to target high value targets.

IG Islamabad has issued orders to red alert security in the city.

He said that 'Pakistan's salvation and happiness lies only in getting rid of terrorism.'
