The spokesman of the Pakistani army, Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has confirmed the completion of the operation in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
On Tuesday night, Director General of Pakistan Army's Public Relations Department (ISPR), Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, speaking in the local news channel Geo News' program 'Aaps Ki Baat', said that in the exchange of fire in Bannu. 25 terrorists were killed, seven surrendered while three were arrested while escaping.
It should be noted that earlier, after the statement of Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif that the detention center of CTD has been cleared of terrorists, the Public Relations Department of the Pakistani Army, ISPR, said that the Department of Anti-Terrorism The operation in the Crime Department (CTD) office is going on successfully and will be completed soon.
Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, giving details regarding the operation, said that on December 18, there were 35 terrorists under investigation in the CTD complex in Bannu. A terrorist overpowered the CTD officer and took away his weapon and released his other accomplices.
He said that there was no attack on the CTD compound from outside, the terrorists created this situation in the custody of the CTD. The terrorists tried to escape but were foiled.
He further said that two CTD officials were also killed during the operation.
Earlier, while addressing the National Assembly session on Tuesday, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that the security forces have killed all the extremists in the building of the Anti-Terrorism Department located in the cantonment of District Bannu.
Khawaja Asif said that 15 personnel of the security forces were injured during the operation.
He said that the security forces had started the operation on December 20 at half past twelve.
The compound of CTD was cleared at 2:30 today. 15 SSG jawans including one officer have been injured. Apart from this, there have been two martyrdoms. And all the hostages were released.
He said that the arrested 33 extremists belonged to different groups.
Khawaja Asif said that terrorism is resurgent in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. He said that the failure of CTD in counter-terrorism in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is worrying.
The militants had taken the security personnel hostage inside the compound since 4 pm on December 18.
The militant government had demanded air access to Afghanistan.
In view of the security situation, the Deputy Commissioner had announced a general holiday in educational institutions across the district on Tuesday, while emergency was also imposed in hospitals.
America's offer of help to Pakistan
On the other hand, the United States also expressed concern over the incident and offered help.
US State Department spokesman Ned Price said during the briefing that We are aware of the situation in Pakistan and are monitoring the reports coming from Bannu. Our sympathies are with Pakistan.
The spokesperson said that Pakistan is our partner and we are ready to help him, whether it is related to the above incident or in a wider scale.
