China's statistics do not represent the true situation of Corona: World Health Organization

The United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) has criticized China's explanation of the deaths caused by the coronavirus, saying that official figures do not reflect the true impact of the epidemic.

According to the French news agency AFP, Michael Ryan, Director of Emergencies of the World Health Organization in Geneva, told reporters about the corona virus that "we still do not have complete data."

"Regarding the number of patients admitted to hospitals and intensive care units and especially the number of deaths, we believe that the current data from China does not accurately represent the true impact of the disease," he said.

Concerns are growing over a surge in coronavirus cases in China as Beijing suddenly lifted years of strict policies last month, hospital cases surged and crematoriums became busier than usual.

Since December, 22 deaths due to corona virus have been reported in China. China has also dramatically limited the classification of deaths and they do not reflect reality.

Michael Ryan, director of emergencies at the World Health Organization, stressed that it is important to know the true impact of the virus and how it is spreading.

According to him, health experts can tell better about the current situation and they can help in this regard.

The head of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has said that in recent weeks, WHO experts have held high-level talks with Chinese experts.

"We are constantly asking China for data on hospitalizations and deaths and information on the virus," he said.

According to him, the WHO can understand the concern expressed by some countries that have introduced new restrictions on travelers from China.

The Chinese government had termed the corona restrictions imposed on travelers from its country as 'unacceptable'.

On Tuesday, China's official media quoted a senior doctor as saying that '70 percent of the population of the capital city of Shanghai is possibly infected with Corona.'

The Omi-crone variant of Corona is spreading rapidly in Beijing.

Officials say that the corona wave is on the rise in other cities including the capital Beijing.
