Pakistan's Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has been returned by NAB to the house that was ransacked, but it has been revealed that valuable items are missing from the house.
Mansoor Rizvi, secretary to the Finance Minister, who is responsible for the maintenance of the Hajveri House in Gulberg area of Lahore, told Urdu News that the house was in a dilapidated condition.
Ishaq Dar's house in Lahore was seized by NAB when he went to London for treatment instead of appearing in the case. In his absence, the case was tried in the NAB court. For failure to appear in court, orders were issued to confiscate and then auction his property.
After confiscating the property, NAB handed over Ishaq Dar's house to the district government where a shelter was first built for the homeless and later it was announced to be auctioned.
According to the Finance Minister's secretary, 'crores of rupees worth of goods have been stolen from the house. ACs have been removed, chandeliers are also missing. All washrooms and furniture have also disappeared. When we opened the house, it was like entering a forest. The household items have been looted very brutally.
He said that the crockery and even the wash basin in the kitchen of the house have disappeared.
Apart from this, the clothes and other valuables in the cupboards are also missing. It seemed as if it was in the hands of bandits and not the government.
During the previous regime, Ishaq Dar was accused of creating assets in excess of his income, and the Hajveri Trust under his supervision was also taken over by the government.
Last month, on a court order, NAB returned Ishaq Dar to his home, while the district government staff were also removed from the house.
Where did the household goods go? When Urdu News contacted Muhammad Imran, the spokesperson of Lahore district government, he was unaware of the situation.
He said that this is new for me too. If any such situation is brought to our notice, it will be investigated. Now the district government has no position on this issue, let us investigate first.
The caretakers of Ishaq Dar's house say that the cold water cooler installed outside the house for common people has also disappeared. Similarly, the equipment of the generator has also been removed. Even the employees' rooms were not spared. While vandalism has also been done in many places. All electronics are missing.
When Mansoor Rizvi, secretary to the finance minister, was asked if he had filed any complaint with the district government in this regard, he said that we have brought this to their notice. Get it done and see what to do later.'
It may be recalled that this house of Ishaq Dar was seized and auctioned during the martial law period of 1999, but later he got this house back on a court order.
