A shooting incident has occurred in the suburbs of Toronto, Canada, in which five people, including the attacker, were killed and one was injured.
The AFP news agency quoted local police chief Jim McSwain as saying that the suspect was also killed in a shootout with law enforcement officers.
According to the police, the shooting happened in an apartment building in Van, 30 kilometers from Toronto.
The person injured in the incident has been taken to the hospital and his condition is said to be out of danger.
Police Chief Jim McSwain told reporters that when he arrived at the scene, there was a very scary scene and many bodies were lying there.
In the ongoing investigation by the police, it is being ascertained whether there was any relationship between the accused and the victims.
The dead bodies were found in different apartments.
According to local media, the building has been evacuated while police personnel and several ambulances were also present at the scene.
Compared to the United States, the number of shooting incidents in neighboring Canada is very low, but in the past few years, there has been an increase in the number of deaths due to the use of weapons, after the government passed a law banning pistols and small arms.
In April 2020, a mass shooting occurred in the eastern Canadian state of Nova Scotia in which a man dressed in police uniform shot and killed 22 people.
In September of this year, a man killed 11 people and injured 18 with a knife in another Canadian province, Saskatchewan.
Guns make up less than three percent of all crimes in Canada, but shootings have increased fivefold since 2009.
The day after the shooting incident in Nova Scotia, the Canadian government banned the use of 1,500 guns of various types.
